I Love Tina’s Work

I finally bought my copy of GUD #3, and I’ve just read tinaconnolly‘s wonderful "Facts of Bone."

Nowadays all the SFF mags say they want "character-driven" stories, or stories with "compelling characters," but it’s disappointing how many published stories are, in essence, permutations of clever ideas; or else the character problem is tacked on as an afterthought. What I love about Tina’s work is that human pain or longing is at the core of every story, and that it’s inseparably linked to the particular weird place her imagination happens to have gone that day. I finish one of her stories both with the wonder and "gee whiz" that good SF inspires, but also with the sense that I’ve learned something about my own humanity.

She’s my kind of writer, and I can’t wait to read the next one.
